The work behind the writing
Tamara Long
Tamara is a Juris Doctor candidate, due to complete her degree in September 2026, with a strong academic record and a research focus on the unusual, under-examined, and rarely discussed aspects of law that nonetheless shape outcomes for all litigants. She began her professional life in healthcare, completing a Bachelor of Nursing in 2010, before taking time away from formal study to raise a family. Returning to university through law has sharpened her interest in how legal institutions exercise power, how procedural rules operate in moments of vulnerability, and how early procedural decisions often determine outcomes long before disputes are resolved on their merits.Tamara has achieved a High Distinction in Advanced Theories of Law, along with Distinctions in Advanced Civil Procedure, International Commercial Litigation, Advanced Employment Law, Advanced Public International Law, Legal Research Methodology, Australian Family Law, and Public Speaking for Lawyers. Her broader legal training includes contract, torts, equity and trusts, constitutional law, criminal law, dispute management, and legal history. Her academic work focuses on the mechanics of legal systems at their edges, including procedural gatekeeping, judicial discretion, appellate filtering, and the treatment of unrepresented and marginalised litigants. She is particularly interested in how law operates in practice rather than in abstraction, and in areas of law that are often overlooked despite their significant impact on everyday litigants.Tamara intends to pursue a career at the Bar, combining rigorous legal research with careful, principled advocacy and a strong commitment to ethical practice.
